Can SPOTi Take on Flash & Silverlight for Adaptive Streaming? [NewTeeVee]

There’s a new entrant in the video delivery business, a Madrid-based company called SPOTi that’s focused on tackling the management and distribution of high-quality, adaptive bitrate video streams to multiple platforms and devices. The main advantage of using SPOTi’s software, according to CEO Thierry Scelles, is the ability to lower costs for publishers against current streaming and progressive download technologies. By adapting to the bandwidth available to the end user, SPOTi canSource: GigaOM Network RSS Feed

Chevy Volt to get iPhone, BlackBerry apps

They may not let you actually drive the car James Bond-style, but it looks like there will be some apps for the iPhone and BlackBerry launching alongside the Chevy Volt, with apps for other devices apparently also a possibility. That word comes from Chevrolet's soon-to-be-retiring VP Brent Dewar, who unfortunately had little to say about the apps themselves, but did briefly flash the above slide during a presentation at the LA Auto Show last week. The apps will apparently let you control when the car charges, however, and even include integrated real-time features from OnStar, which should include things like electricity rates from utility companies by the time the Volt rolls out.
[Thanks, Dave]

The seven megapixel Olympus SP-510UZ

Olympus just dropped a new 7.1 megapixel member of the Ultra Zoom family on us, and this is one shooter that thrives at night. Although it's got a fairly impressive maximum ISO of 1600 and a very impressive 10x optical zoom at full resolution, the real fun comes when you step the SP-510UZ down to 3 megapixels; at that res, you can bump the ISO all the way up to 4000 and employ a special Fine Zoom of 15x -- you know, for late night sporting events and such. How To Sync iTunes Music with a Palm Pre Using SyncToy

Now that Apple has once again broken the Palm Pre’s ability to sync with iTunes as expected, folks are looking for options. I’m still cool with placing the phone in USB Mode and using drag-and-drop methods to move music, but not everyone wants a manual method. Besides, it’s not really a data synchronization when you’re simply copying files from one place to another. You could use some of the options we’ve highlighted before: DoubleTwist is still my current fave, but MediaMonkey fitsSource: jkOnTheRun RSS Feed

penny-dispensing machine: an interactive representation of the daily grind

…or the daily crank, as the machine puts it. Says maker Blake Fall-Conroy, “Turning the crank will yield one penny every 5.04 seconds, for $7.15 an hour (NY state minimum wage).” Obviously the machine stops doling out money as soon as you stop turning the crank. I think $7 is slightly less than the minimum daily wage here in the Philippines. Then again, in New York $7 will probably only get you what, a movie? Not even?

The penny-dispensing machine measures about approx. 15 x 19 Source: technabob RSS Feed

We’ve all been there. Out and about, nowhere near a charger or electric outlet and our beloved gadget, be it cellphone, camera, video game, mp3 player… it’ll just run out of power when you least expect it and when you’d rather it wouldn’t.

Windows 7 + Family Guy = Horror. Here’s the proof (Updated)

UPDATE: It appears there may never have been a Windows 7-sponsored Family Guy episode after all, as Mark ‘Rizzn’ Hopkins points out on Silicon Angle. As a commenter on this post, Rob, points out these are actually short ads for Windows 7. Still, these Microsoft ads really do sully the Family Guy brand.

Finally we get to see the horror that would have been the Microsoft-sponsored episode of Family Guy.

A couple of months ago Microsoft planned to sponsor an episode of FamilySource: The Next Web RSS Feed
